INHERITANCE

The cold air blows South
Ruddy faces smile
As they pass each other
In this not so sheltered cove

The rock face is unforgiving
The pebbles, sharp underfoot
Evidence of time long gone
Keeps us searching, entranced

A voice shouts out
Competing with wind, with waves
We gather round, drawn together
This bond, forged through history

Wonder on the faces
Of young and old alike
As we focus, a force, together
On the fossil of a trilobite

A creature who lived long ago
Evidence bound in rock
The Earth has shown a secret
We are truly blessed this day.
